DEVLINS PUSHES FOR
FORMER PRESENTATION FIELDS
TO BE ZONED AS SPORTS GROUNDS

July 2007

Local Councillor for the area, Cormac Devlin has supported and welcomed the Managers proposal to safe gaurd the Presentation Field on Hudson Road, Glasthule.

Proposed Draft Variation to County Development Plan: Former Presentation College Glasthule Sports Field, Hudson Road, Glasthule

The following report of the Manager, copy of which had been circulated to the Members, was considered:

At the County Council meeting on 11th June 2007 the Manager presented a report on the above which was noted.

The report set out the background and the zoning/development potential of this land along with the reasons for the following specific local objective to be attached to the land by way of Variation of the County Development Plan:

“To preserve the playing pitch/sports use of this ‘F’ open space zoned land.”

The elected members seemed favourably disposed to this possible variation being brought forward for formal consideration.

As required by the Planning and Development (Strategic Environmental Assessment) Regulations, 2004, the Planning Authority has screened the proposed variation to consider whether or not it would be likely to have significant effects on the environment.

The Planning Authority considers that the proposed variation would not have significant effects on the environment and that a Strategic Environmental Assessment would not be required.

The prescribed bodies have been requested to state whether or not they agree with this assessment.

Recommendation:
Subject to no adverse comments from the prescribed bodies, it is recommended that the process of varying the County Development Plan be commenced to affix the following specific local objective to the former Presentation College Sports Field, Hudson Road, Glasthule:

“To preserve the playing pitch/sports use of this ‘F’ open space zoned land.”

Following discussion, during which Mr. Owen Keegan, County Manager responded to Members queries, the report was agreed.
